During my single years, I could have waited for a husband before enjoying anything. Instead, two girlfriends and I started making plans. We hiked, visited local attractions, and saved for trips so that once a year we could travel internationally while I was still single. I even purchased my first home—a condo—while I was single. I still wanted to get married. But I was also tired of waiting for my dreams, so I decided to keep living during my husband search. Maybe your waiting has nothing to do with marriage. Perhaps you’re waiting for a change at work, for a relationship to heal, or for a dream to take shape. Whatever the “unfinished” part of your story, there is still life to enjoy today. Jesus came to give us life to the full, as John 10:10 reminds us. You can bring Him your longing and still enjoy the good already around you. Those two things can live together. This month, choose one thing you’ve been postponing. Invite a friend, make the call, or put it on the calendar. Give yourself permission to enjoy this season while you pray about the next. |
